Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) provides high-precision tropical cyclone forecasts that support the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in its humanitarian efforts across Bangladesh. As the world’s largest bilateral aid agency, JICA uses TSR’s “zero-error” forecasts to assess the risk of tropical storms and Category 1+ strength winds in the Bay of Bengal.
This information plays a critical role in disaster preparedness. TSR’s forecast data is incorporated into JICA’s risk assessments, helping to determine the urgency and necessity of evacuation and rescue operations. These actions are often focused on marginalised communities living in high-risk areas such as the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna River Basin – regions frequently exposed to cyclones, floods, and earthquakes.
By enabling early, targeted responses, TSR’s forecasts help JICA protect lives, and support long-term development in disaster-prone regions.
